We’ve recently come across a number of employment hand books which detail the statutory rules relating to a number of issues like maternity leave, paternity leave, shared parental leave et cetera et cetera.
The problem with this is if the statutory rules change your handbook is no longer In Sync this can cause a problem as somebody seeks to look up the handbook and assumes that they will be entitled to things that are no longer available. Our advice is always do not include reflections of the statutory rules in the handbook refer people to the government website which outlines those rules so they can find out from the source exactly what they are entitled to.
Employment documents are often not looked at from one day to the next unless an employee or a manager has specific question to ask the effort and time spent trying to keep such things up to date when you’re trying to match it with changes in legislation could be pretty much a waste of yours and everybody else’s energy.
If you currently have a handbook you want us to look at please give us a call on 0161 850 1122.
